Exploring the world for the past 40 years
Maurizio Doro started his adventures in a world where gps and the kind of planning we have today was only a dream. He crossed deserts, frozen lakes and climbed mountains all over the world.
His solo expeditions were something more than just travels. He looked for the wildest thing to do, always camping to be close to nature, as farther as possible from civilisation.
That’s the true meaning of exploring: discovering differences we are not used to and accept them. In this video Maurizio talks about his travel to Alaska. He planned to do a very difficult crossing that turns out impossible to complete, so he had to call the U.S. coast guard who picked him up with an elicopter.
During this adventure he didn’t find any shops, so he had to have all the food with him or find in nature (not much considering it was Alaska). He slept on a tent that was nothing much more than a sheet. He cycled and use a dinghy to cross the section on the ocean.

Con più di 25 imprese di spedizioni estreme in oltre 40 anni Maurizio Doro ha tanto da raccontarci. In questa chiacchierata ce ne descrive alcune, di altre ci lascia intuire la fatica, il senso provato in quei momenti lì. Perché quello che si prova in un deserto cileno a giorni di cammino da ogni forma vivente o nelle superfici ghiacciate della Siberia lo si può forse solo “provare” a raccontare.
Maurizio faceva queste avventure fin dai primi anni 90, quando ancora gli smartphones e i percorsi mappati erano fantascienza, girava con una cartina fisica e una videocamera a cassetta MiniDv. Oggi molto è cambiato ma lo spirito del viaggiatore rimane sempre quello.
Come precisava Maurizio quando gli si chiedeva dove dormiva durante i suoi viaggi: “mai in hotel, sempre nel selvaggio con la mia tenda. Perché voglio sentire i miei istinti”.
